Synopsis Ezra-Nehemiah was one scroll in the Hebrew Bible.  These books cover the return of the Jews from the Babylonian Captivity, the rebuilding of the Temple and the walls of Jerusalem, and the attempt to purify the Jews' worship.

The book of Esther is the story of a heroic Jewish queen of King Ahasuerus of Persia.  Esther risked her life to save her people from death.  The festival of Purim celebrates this victory of the Jews.

The book of Job explores the mystery of suffering, and how a person can remain faithful to God while suffering.  Job found satisfaction in his personal knowledge of God.  He found that God cared from him.

The basic purpose of this volume and the others in the series is to show what these Bible books meant for their time and what they say to our generation.
